Ride On
Ride On builds on the skills learned in Life On A Horse Ranch.
Unlike Life On A Horse Ranch, which is based on the Horse Fan badge and is more of an overview, Ride On is based on the Horse Rider badge and offers even more hands on experience and riding to a much smaller group. Ride On is limited to a maximum of 4 riders.
Riders will learn how to:
- Safely enter a stall to catch and halter their horse. After a demonstration each rider will go in, with supervision, and halter their assigned horse.
- Safely tie their horse in preparation for grooming.
- Utilize the rest of the components of a tack box and use those tools to groom their horse
- Saddle and bridle their own horse in preparation for riding
- Safety check equipment prior to mounting, which will be double checked by instructor prior to each riding session.
- Properly mount and dismount their horse
- Ask their horse to move out at a walk, and learn to stop with control AND without hurting the horse
- Properly remove and store their horse's tack
There will be two riding sessions during the day; one before lunch and one after lunch. Depending on the weather, riders will go out one at a time on a trail ride around the hay field while the other riders learn and practice gaming patterns. If it is raining all riders will stay indoors to learn and practice gaming patterns. Each rider will turn their horse out and clean their assigned horse's stall at the end of the day.
Horse Rider badges will be awarded at day's end to juniors along with certificates.
For the safety of our riders and to minimize the amount of review, we ask that Ride On be scheduled within one month of participating in Life On A Horse Ranch.
